Supersized Top 30 DII Rankings As Top Teams Compile Wins

(1) Tampa Spartans
Top ranked Tampa (11-1) took the luster from the Golden Rams of Albany State, outscoring them 32-14 in a three game sweep. The Spartans should add another four wins this week with games against Saginaw Valley State and Walsh.
(2) Minnesota State Mavericks
The Mavs (5-1) earned a pair of wins over Southwest Baptist in their only action of the week. MSU doesn’t have any more games scheduled until March 6th when play nine games in eight days in Florida.
(3) USC Aiken Pacers
USC Aiken (10-2) swept three important conference games at Francis Marion. The Pacers will be on the road again this week with a trio of contests against Flagler.
(4) Lander Bearcats
After completing their series win against Flagler, the Bearcats (13-1) earned a crushing win over Clafin and swept Young Harris. With the way LU is playing they probably could have taken three from the veteran Old Harris as well.
(5) Mount Olive Trojans
UMO (10-4) won the decisive game of their series with Concord, won a pair over Lenoir-Rhyne and won two of three over California (PA) which included a 23-2 drubbing. A big series lays ahead for the Trojans this week as they lost Florida Southern.
(6) Seton Hill Griffins
The Griffins (2-1) won the bookend games of their series with Barton, but let a late lead in the second game cost them the sweep. SHU plays Limestone this week as they prep for their spring break trip.
(7) Grand Valley St. Lakers
The Lakers (2-1) dropped their season opener to Southern Indiana but came back to win their series over the 2010 national champs. In the finale Giancarlo Brugnoni became GVSU’s career home run leader with 33. GVSU head to Florida on March 3rd for a slew of games.
(8) Wilmington (DE) Wildcats
The Wildcats (3-0) opened their 2014 schedule with wins over Mercyhurst, Mansfield and St. Rose. WU will play four games against Indiana (PA) this week.
(9) West Florida Argonauts
The Argos’ (10-2) dominating pitching continued as UWF only allowed three runs in their two wins over Valdosta State. A third game in the series was rained out. UWF head up to Memphis to play Christian Brothers this week.
10 (11) Southern Arkansas Muleriders
The Muleriders (11-3) scored an impressive win over LSU-Shreveport and won two of three against Northwestern Oklahoma State. After playing a pair with Union, SAU will host Ouachita Baptist this week.
11 (14) St. Mary’s (TX) Rattlers
The Rattlers (11-3) edged Houston-Victoria in extra innings and won two of three over Rogers State. One of StMU’s Friday wins was a no-hitter by Matt McClain. A midweek showdown with Angelo State and series with William Jewell are on this week’s schedule.
12 (12) Drury Panthers
The Panthers (0-0) are one of the last teams to play their first games of the year as they don’t hit the diamond until March 1st when they play Northwestern Oklahoma State.
13 (16) Ark.-Monticello Boll Weevils
UAM (12-3) had a shutout win over DI Arkansas State, pummeled Le Moyne-Owen twice and won two of three from SWOSU in which their loss was in extra innings. The Weevils can earn a statement win Wednesday against Delta State and play Henderson State for the weekend.
14 (13) Millersville Marauders
The Marauders (6-2) swept a doubleheader from Chowan, were shutout by Indiana (PA) and scored wins over Le Moyne and Tiffin. MU has a trio of games with the Philadelphia Rams on this week’s schedule.
15 (15) St. Edward’s Hilltoppers
After a slow start the Hilltoppers (9-5) are starting to resemble last year’s team which went to Cary. SEU won a game over Houston-Victoria and series over Oklahoma Christian. The club will head over to Odessa to play Texas-Parmian Basin this week.
16 (10) St. Cloud St. Huskies
SCSU (2-2) started their season with wins over Quincy and Arkansas Tech, but lost games to both clubs on Sunday to fall back to .500. The Huskies have four games with Missouri S&T this week.
17 (17) Colorado Mesa Mavericks
Colorado Mesa (5-2) played three close road games with DI’s Northern Colorado. The Mavs were only able to win one against the Bears but should get to their winning ways this week against Colorado Christian.
18 (20) UNC Pembroke Braves
The Braves (10-3) had a ten run win over Barton and were able to win two of three in their big series with Montevallo. UNCP has a game with Erskine and another big weekend ahead as they travel to Georgia College.
19 (21) Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas
The Javelinas (5-4) swept three games from Texas College to get back on the right side of .500. TAMKU will looks to continue their winning ways this week with four games on the road against West Texas A&M.
20 (18) Montevallo Falcons
The Falcons (10-5) earned wins over Stillman and Miles, but were bested in two of three on the road against UNC Pembroke. UM faces West Alabama and Young Harris this week.
21 (NR) Florida Tech Panthers
The Panthers (12-1) pounce into the rankings after their sweep over Palm Beach Atlantic. FIT will play at Barry and host Nova Southeastern this week as they
22 (22) Georgia College Bobcats
The Bobcats (7-3) suffered a lopsided loss to Tampa, had a win over West Georgia and took two of three from visiting Flagler. GCSU has a showdown series with UNC Pembroke this week.
23 (19) Lewis Flyers
Lewis (2-1) lost their opening game to Trevecca Nazarene, but did earn wins over Union and Ohio Dominican. The Flyers will head to Florida next weekend where they will play nine games in eight days. A pair with GVSU are their most meaningful matchups.
24 (24) St. Leo Lions
The Lions (7-2) had wins over Florida Southern and Clearwater Christian as they returned to action after a week off. SLU has a series with Palm Beach Atlantic ahead and will celebrate former Lion turned MLBer Bob Tewksbury midweek against Southeastern (FL).
24 *(NR) Cal Baptist Lancers
It’s impossible to ignore the Lancers (14-0) who have started the season with fourteen straight wins. CBU looks to keep streak going against Dixie State this week.
26 *(23) Cal Poly Pomona Broncos
The Broncos (12-2) split their series with UC San Diego. Of CPP’s 14 games, nine have been decided by a single run and two runs were the difference in another three. The cardiac kids have an exhibition with Japan Railways East and a series with Cal State Dominguez Hills.
26 *(25) Alabama Huntsville Chargers
The Chargers (10-4) had a crushing 20-3 win over Miles and took two of three over the Lee Flames. UAH’s only action this week is a midweek contest against Stillman.
26 *(26) Angelo State Rams
The Rams (10-2) upped their winning percentage with a four game sweep of Colorado Mines. ASU has their first conference games this week when they play Cameron, but not before tangling with regional rival St. Mary’s.
26 (28) Franklin Pierce Ravens
Franklin Pierce (4-1) posted wins over Felician, Caldwell, Bridgeport and Nyack, but was shutout in a 14 inning loss to Pfeiffer. The Ravens’ ERA for the five games was 0.72. FPU plays at St. Thomas Aquinas and hosts New Haven this week.
30 (29) Central Missouri Mules
The Mules (6-5) won three of four over Southwest Baptist to get over .500 for the first time this year. UCM will attempt add some more wins to their total this week when they travel to Tahlequah, OK to play Northeastern State.
30 *(30) Wingate Bulldogs
The Bulldogs (9-3) had a win over Belmont Abbey and took two of three against Brevard. After playing Francis Marion midweek, WU had a big SAC series with Tusculum.
30 *(27) Concord Mountain Lions
The Mountain Lions (3-3) lost the finale in their series with Mount Olive and took two of three against Pittsburg-Johnstown. CU will host Fairmont State in a pair of double headers this week.
30 *(30) Delta St. Statesmen
For the second week in a row Delta State (5-4) won the bookend games of their three game series; this time the wins were over North Alabama. DSU has a tough week ahead with games against Arkansas Monticello and Valdosta State.
30 *(NR) Nova Southeastern Sharks
The Sharks (12-1) share a spot in the rankings after increasing their win total to 12 with only a single loss. NSU has a big SSC series with Florida Tech this week.
30 *(NR) Chico State Wildcats
The Wildcats (10-3) also share the final spot in the rankings after sweeping the Academy of Art. Chico hurlers only allowed three runs in four games against the Urban Knights. CSUMB this week.
