Hello Gents’ fans and welcome back to the tenth edition of “On the Bump”. This was a fairly busy week for us as we had a midweek contest with LeTourneau, and then we headed out to Sherman, Texas for three conference games with Austin College. This week I will tell you how those games went, and I will briefly discuss our extremely busy upcoming week that includes three midweek games and a pair of games this coming weekend against Southwestern. Hello Gents’ fans and thanks for stopping by to read “On the Bump” this week. We played pretty well this weekend against a good Hendrix team and managed to sweep a three game series. This week I will talk about our series with the Hendrix Warriors and preview our upcoming weekend series with the University of Dallas.
Monday was our off day, which was nice considering we got back from Southwestern University around 11 PM on Sunday night. Tuesday’s practice went well, but we had to do a little running afterwards to take care of some team business. Wednesday was cold and rainy, but we were still able to get all of our relievers on the field to throw a few innings in a scrimmage. Those mid-week scrimmages are really important because they can ultimately decide which players will get opportunities during the upcoming weekend. Thursday’s practice was short and sweet, as our practices the day before a game are typically a way to finish up last minute preparation for our games that weekend. Continue reading
Hello Gents’ fans and welcome back to another edition of “On the Bump”. The past week has been very busy for us as we played a doubleheader on Wednesday against Jarvis Christian, and then we spent the weekend in Georgetown, Texas playing our first conference series against Southwestern.
We had this past Monday and Tuesday off from school for Mardi Gras break. Only in Louisiana would you get school off for Mardi Gras. Anyways, we were limited with our time on the field on Monday and Tuesday because of inclement weather in the Shreveport area. Continue reading
Hello Gents’ fans and welcome back to the first official “in-season” “On the Bump”. We split our games this past weekend and we were rained out on Sunday. During this edition of the blog I will highlight our trip to Dallas, break down our games, and talk about our upcoming week as we prepare to open conference play this coming weekend.
On Thursday afternoon we had a light practice before we packed up and headed 200 miles west to Dallas. Our practice was a little lackadaisical and that would prove to be a little foreshadowing for our game less than 24 hours later. Because Dallas was a rather short drive, we took three vans rather than a charter bus. I got to ride in Coach Jolley’s van and I have to believe we had the most fun out of any of the vans on the ride over to Dallas. It turns out that our hotel was less than a mile from my home in Plano so it was pretty cool to be so close to home. When we got to our hotel on Thursday night we were assigned our rooms and given a little bit of time to go find some food before curfew. My roommates for the trip were Grady Flournoy, Chase Clarke, and Trey Guccione. We held it down for the “BBB” in room 204. Continue reading
Hello Gents’ fans and welcome back to “On the Bump”. We are now less than a week away from Opening Day and I could not be more excited. Imagine the excitement of a child on Christmas Day, multiply that times five, and that probably describes how excited I am for the season to start. Opening Day means a 0-0 record, a fresh slate, and high hopes for everyone. This week I will briefly discuss our week of practice, introduce to you our pitching staff, and talk about the teams that we will be playing this upcoming weekend.
Hello Gents’ fans and welcome back to “On the Bump”. We are 12 days away from Opening Day and the atmosphere around the locker room and the field is extremely unique. You can feel that everyone understands the season is so close and all of the hard work we have been putting in since August will start to pay dividends soon. This week I will talk to you about our week of preparation, talk about our expectations as a team, and introduce you to our outfielders. Continue reading
Hey Gents’ fans and welcome back to the second weekly edition of “On the Bump”. This week I will talk about how we finally got to practice outdoors, discuss highlights from our intersquad scrimmage on Saturday, and introduce you to our 2012-2013 Centenary Gents’ infielders.
Monday and Tuesday’s practices were cancelled due to sleet, cold, and rain. Needless to say, the weather was pretty miserable. Our guys still got their work in though as they hit in the cages and pitchers threw in the gym or on the soccer field. Continue reading
Hello Gents fans and welcome back to “On the Bump”. This is my third and final year to write the blog, as I plan on graduating in May with a degree in Accounting and Business Administration.
For those of you that have never read the blog, I use this as a way to give readers insight into the ins and outs of a week as a collegiate student-athlete. Centenary is a challenging school academically so it takes a lot of work for our student-athletes to achieve success on and off the field. Continue reading
