Back From Spring Break

After a long time away from the blog, I’m finally back to catch y’all up on quite a bit. First things first, I just got to enjoy 70 degree weather in Florida for a week while Harrisonburg got inches of snow. So that’s pretty awesome.

Last Saturday, we opened up conference play on the road and split with Emory and Henry. We won in extras in the first game which was huge for us since we have been losing a lot of those closer games to start the year. We then headed down to Florida with a quick detour in Spartanburg, SC to stay overnight. We pulled into Florida on Sunday and moved into our condos which were huge. We stayed at an unbelievable resort and Coach really hooked us up. Continue reading

DELTA ST. STATESMEN
In a difficult decision Delta State (13-2) remains top team despite a head-scratching mercy-run-rule loss to Harding. The Statemen’s effort in grinding out a pair of come-from-behind wins to take a series from West Florida, combined with their previous victories, gives them a razor thin edge over MOC.

(2)
MOUNT OLIVE TROJANS
It’s hard not to pick the Trojans (17-1) as the number one team, especially after their series win at Belmont Abbey, but Mount Olive stays in the second spot for now, but only by an amoeba sized margin. MOC plays Wingate and Barton this week.

ST. MARY’S (TX) RATTLERS
The Rattlers’ (14-4) had a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to St. Edward’s on Friday night which broke Carl O’Neal’s streak of 21 consecutive wins. St. Mary’s rallied to win the nightcap in extra inning and won again the next day to take the series from the Hilltoppers. TAMIU next week.

TAMPA SPARTANS
Tampa (11-2) traveled to Georgia and doubled up the Albany State Rams 4-2 in their only action of the week. UT returns home to host Rockhurst and Cedarville before playing a hot Florida Tech team this upcoming weekend.

College Baseball Lineup Exclusive! Interview with the 5th Inning Yeti!

The box score from that night lists 500 people were in attendance at the game between the Nicholls Colonels and the Southern Jaguars; however if you ask anyone in tiny Thibadaux, LA they will tell you they were in the stands that faithful evening. The date was February 20th, 2013 – an evening which began like any other by banks of Bayou Lafourche, but finished like none ever will again.

The hometown Colonels had jumped out to quick 4-0 lead over the visiting Jags, but the Southern sticks began ringing. In the fourth inning an error lead to an unearned run after a weak Southern single through the right side. It was far from a devastating blow to the Colonels’ chances of winning the game, but it was an all too familiar sight on Dider Field. In twenty years of Southland Conference baseball Nicholls had yet to win a regular season title. Was this going to be another ho-hum, middle of the pack .500 season? Was the excitement and enthusiasm brought to the diamond by Coach Seth Thibodeaux, who tied the school record for the most wins by any head coach in his first two seasons unwarranted? Deflated mutterings and conjecture soon began to swell and spill onto the field. Continue reading
